September 11th List Poem

Yesterday in class we began discussing the events of September 11, 2001. Today our class read parts of a Scholastic News article about 9/11 and highlighted the words that stood out the most to their group. Then we collaborated in a whole group setting, and my AWESOME 4th graders came up with the following list poem (the bold words at the end of each line are the words they highlighted):

On September 11, 2001 the U.S. was ATTACKED.
Four planes HIJACKED.
On the same day, two buildings were destroyed by planes flown by TERRORISTS.
As the buildings caught fire, they COLLAPSED.
After that, part of the Pentagon was DESTROYED.
In Shanksville, PA, the fourth plane CRASHED.
We will never forget the 3,000 KILLED.

I really was quite impressed with these kiddos!

As a side note, one of my students shared his experience remembering those wounded and lost as a result of the attacks on 9/11/01. He participated in the Old Glory Run held at Nellis Air Force base. They made sure that the American flag kept going around Freedom Park from 6:00 am - 4:30 pm yesterday. Check out the video HERE.
